In the early eighties, the coins and stamps almost rolled off the kitchen table at the De Ruiter family. Father Jaap had great passion for his hobby. Trading in coins, stamps, old toys etc was meant for the evening hours, but he could do it all day. He was a regular at the stamp market at the Doelenplein in Rotterdam.
De Ruiter Sr. would have never dreamed at the time that over thirty years later, there would be a real Dutch auction house, with national and international sellers and buyers and serious collections of collector’s items, precious metals, art and utilitarian items that change hands using the auction house. But he’s no longer doing it alone. One by one, his sons rolled into the company. Over the years, a wealth of experience and a driven team of specialists was built. The family business rapidly grew and the earned experience was expanded upon in various companies. Auctioning off objects was De Ruiter Sr.’s cherished wish. The continuous growth of objects and (international) customers enabled making this step.
Veilinghuis De Ruiter mediates between seller and buyer. We attach great value to personal contact with all our relations. The experts of the auction house have plenty of knowledge about origin, materials and value of precious items like coins and banknotes, jewels, gold and silver, art and antiques, diamonds and watches. The offer of the auctions varies from something nice to put on the wall to rare valuable pieces. Through local, national and international customers, the auctioned items find their way to a new owner.
On the façade of Veilinghuis De Ruiter is a portrait of the Netherlands’ most influential 19th century painter Johan Barthold Jongkind. In the auction house, you taste the atmosphere of a traditional auction with the support and use of modern means, such as online auction activities.
