1910 (19 Oct) Bavaria, Germany, Airmail, Postcard from Baumenheim to Melbourne (Australia), the only recorded example to Australia, scarce
Lot 4613
Aero Club of Augsburg postcard with Balloon illustration on reverse, sent to Melbourne with Arms 20pf tied 'BAEUMENHEIM/19/OCT/10' cds, a couple of corner creases. Lengthy message in English reads "Our first ascension in a ballon with Hylda was Frankfurt from 10am to 5pm. We landed on top of a tree. Then went up again to land balloon very smoothly in a field." The only recorded example to Australia, and surely the earliest aerial 'incident' en route to Australia.
