Semyon Ivanovich Dezhnev (about 1605, Esipovskaya village in Soyal on Pinega [2] - early 1673, Moscow) - Russian traveler, explorer, navigator, explorer of North, Eastern Siberia and North America, Yakut ataman, merchant furs. The first navigator who passed the Bering Strait, separating Asia from North America, Chukotka from Alaska, and he did it 80 years before Vitus Bering, in 1648 [3], on the way visiting the islands of Ratmanov [4] and Krusenstern [5], located in the middle of the Bering Strait.
