1937 Official Festival Post Card commemorating Berlin’s 700 years as a city.
Lot 151
Official Festival Post Card commemorating Berlin’s 700 years as a city. Depicted are the more prominent municipal Wappenschilde (coats of arms) from 1253 to 1937.

Postally used on 16 August 1937. The card carries unusual dual franking: Sc 419 (4:00 PM in Berlin-Treptow) and Sc 421 (11:00 PM in Berlin N4). The 10 Rpf increase, of course, is because the card was addressed to Sweden. The question remains, however, was the additional postage applied gratis by postal personnel at Berlin N4 some seven hours after the card was posted in Berlin-Treptow?
The commemorative cancellation publicizes the 700 year celebration of the founding of the City of Berlin, 15 August - 5 September 1937, and apparently, the opening of the 1937 commercial fishing season!
