1949 (Apr. 11) cover sent from Tanyang to U.S.A., franked on reverse 1949 Dr. SYS Gold Yuan issue, Shanghai Dah Tung (Engraved) print, $500 mauve, block of nine (paying $4,500 in total), tied by five strikes of TANYANG 11.4.49 cds, being the First Effective Day of the new Postal Rate for International Ordinary Mail. The new rate was $4,400 and the sender paid $4,500 with $100 overpaid in this case. Interesting and important postal history item.
