“The NSDAP single-party state meant the Fuhrer state. It was a logical step, therefore, when the Reich Minister of the Interior informed civil servants on 20 July 1933 that the Hitler salute was ‘to be used generally as the German greeting . . . now that the party system is finished and the entire government of the German Reich is under the control of Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler.’”
