1938 Munich - The Feldhermhalle (Pigeon feeding)
Lot 58
1938 Munich - The Feldhermhalle (Pigeon feeding)
Munchen’s Feldhermhalle was designed after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy and erected in 1841-44 by Friedrich Gartner. It contains the Bavarian Military Monument by F. von Miller (1892) and statues of Field Marshals Tilly and von Wrede by Schwanthaler. The inscription “Lord deliver usl” was placed above the monument in 1924, and refers to German territory lost or occupied since World War I. The square in front of the hall is still a favorite rendezvous on Sunday afternoons, but in the Third Reich, it was most notable as the site of Hitler’s ill-fated Putsch of 9 November 1923.
