Philatelic, but postally used cover franked with Scott 481-483. The special cancel dated 9 October 1938 commemorates Ser 'Befrciluiu) (The Day of Liberation) when parts of Czechoslovakia were occupied by German forces.
Aussig is the German name for a town that had a population of 43,000 in 1938. In the 1930s, Aussig was in the so-called Sudetenland, the German-settled area of northwest Bohemia on the Elbe River.
At the end of the war, the town reverted to Czechoslovakia and now goes by the name of Usti nad Labern.
