Bozen, or Bolzano, is an ancient Roman town. It fell to the Lombards in 680 A.D. and to the Franks in 740. It was the seat of Bavarian border countships, and fell to the episcopate of Trent in 1027. It was next under the Hapsburgs from 1363, sharing the history of the Tirol. It was conquered by Italy in 1918, and occupied by German Forces in the latter stages of World War II.
