1944 Michel P 296 additionally franked with Michel 886 (Scott B270) spot on the “U” of GROSSDEUTSCHES
Lot 572
Michel P 296 additionally franked with Michel 886 (Scott B270) cancelled to order on 20 March 1944. The town name in the double circle date stamp, unfortunately, cannot be determined. Philatelic interest does not stop there, however.
The Michel Deutschland-Spezial-Katalog 2000 catalog identifies three different “spot” varieties on this issue. On this copy there is a very distinct brown ink spot on the “U” of GROSSDEUTSCHES, but this variety is not listed in the catalog. A previous owner of the card also saw the spot, and noted so in pencil. The Michel-recognized spot varieties enhance the value of the stamp one hundred-fold!
