Lot 863
Nurnberg was continually ruled by patrician families, and German monarchs frequently resided and held diets or assemblies here, and in 1219 Frederick II conferred upon it the rights of a free imperial town.
Nurnberg is said to have been destroyed by Emperor Henry V in 1105, but in 1127 Emperor Lothair took it from the Duke of Swabia and assigned it to the Duke of Bavaria. An imperial office, known as the Burgrave or Governor of Niirnberg, became prominent in the 12lh century and came into the hands of the Counts of Hohenzollern at the beginning of the 13"‘ century.
